Laurel Smith has more than a decade of experience photographing the faces, landscapes, and culture of her home state of Colorado and in locations all around the world. In 2017 she left her job as an elementary school teacher to pursue photography full-time and founded Sopris Media, named after the iconic mountain that looks over her home in Carbondale, Colorado. Laurel soon expanded her business to include video as another way to tell her subjects’ stories. She specializes in documentary photography and film that shed light on social justice and environmental issues, promote community, and highlight local non-profits.
Her work has been shown nationally and locally in publications and film festivals such as Democracy Now!, DocuWest, High Country News, Forbes, La Preñsa, and the Sopris Sun.
She attended Eddie Adams Workshop XXXII in 2019.
